Met-Ed just like any other utility holding company is open and ready to sign new customers onboard. The procedure for signing up new customers is very simple and easy to follow. However, as a new customer, you must know what you need to do before even signing up for Met-Ed.

First of all, you must be or be moving into the Met-Ed service area. Basically, you must be within the Met-Ed’s zone.

Requirements

  • Your utility request address
If you are moving to a new location, then this should be your new address. It should contain every single detail that will lead the technical team to your doorstep. I mean, provide full address including unit number if is available.
  • Contact details
This particular one must include your name, phone number, email, and physical address even if it is different from the request address. Make sure you provide all the information exactly as it is on your identity cards.
  • Activation date
This should be the exact date you want the service. Make sure it is within a working day since the company doesn’t work on weekends. Also, make sure your request date is at least 48 hours ahead of the time you are submitting your request.
  • Security
Utility companies usually require some sort of security deposit before activating a service for a new customer. This security will be either your Social Security Number (SSN) to perform a credit check, a guarantor, or an upfront cash deposit.

Process

If you meet all the requirements, then you can continue with the procedure. There are two things you can do. You can either request via the customer service center number which is faster or you can visit the Met-Ed FirstEnergy website to start your process.

I will tell you how to do both so you can go with the one that is most convenient.

To use the customer service center number, simply call 1-800-545-7741. Customers with hearing or speech impaired should call the Telecommunication Relay Service (TRS) on 711.

  • If you want to use the form, then you have to visit the Met-Ed FirstEnergy Move In form.
  • As soon as you click on the “Start Service” button, you should see a similar screen just like the one in the image below.

  • For completely new customers, you must enter your ZIP code and click “NEXT” to start the entire process.
  • You will be taken to a form which you must fill with your correct details. Make sure you fill out the form with the requirements you prepared before starting the process.

As soon you submit the form, FirstEnergy will check and start working on getting your service started.
