How to start service with Penn Power
There are two ways you can request service installation. You can request by phone which is faster, or you can visit the FirstEnergy website to request for service.
Requesting for the service installation using the form is the same procedure for all FirstEnergy companies. However, the phone number for the phone-in-service request is different depending on where you want to request your service.
If you are in Penn Power’s zone and would like to request service installation via phone, then you will have to call 1-800-720-3600 to request service. Customers with speech or hearing impairment should call the Telecommunication Relay Service (TRS) number on 711
If you want to request the service from the website, then you should probably follow the procedure from my previous article where I covered “how to start service with Met Ed FirstEnergy“. It is the same procedure if you are requesting service installation from Penn Power of PA.
How to check the Penn Power outage report
There are many reasons why your power might be out. Usually, after storms, most power lines fall hence causing an outage in an entire area. There are other times when other human activities might also cause the power to go off.
Whenever there is a power outage, people do report the outage to FirstEnergy. This report is made available for customers to access and see the status of the outage as well.
To check the Penn Power outage report, simply visit the current outage link. You should see a similar page to the one in the image below.
Scroll down and click on Pennsylvania & New York. You should see another screen similar to the one in the image below.
The areas with power issues are marked on the map. You can zoom in to see the specific locations that are affected.
The left pane of the screen shows a few tabs that will help you navigate the map properly. These tabs include a legend, outages by county, bookmarks, layers, and a help tab. You can use these tabs to filter what exactly you would like to see on the map.
On top of the tabs, you have numbers which the first number is the Customers affected. This shows the number of customers currently experiencing outages. The next number shows the total number of customers served.
Penn Power outage reports are always up to date based on information relayed to the company by field workers or customers. This also means that if something happens and no one relays the information to the company, there will be no update of the specific issue on the outage map.
